How to start an online portfolio?

I am a young design student looking to start an internet portfolio with relatively no experience or understanding of how to begin my own web page. Ironically, I have had experience in web design, particularly with Dreamweaver - but very little understanding on how to actually begin my own portfolio website.

I am in the process of applying for various design-related projects, workshops, and experiences. I need something to show my work and begin compiling my new work. Does anyone have any advice? Any other threads I should look at? Places I can host my web-site? Ideas?

Any help would be really appreciated.

It's pretty easy ... I would just buy website hosting somewhere (it's very cheap these days, like $5 a month). If you dig around you might be able to find sites that would host portfolios in some form for free, but it's probably better to have your own site so that you'll be the one in control. All you need to do to create a website, once you have your site hosted, is log in and create a file in your public_html folder called index.html.
