Rope Structures

Anarchi

Hi

Does anyone know of any self contained structures made entirely/predominantly from rope?

Have been looking but no luck

Can you be more specific?

Rope or cables are really line elements, I can't think of an instance where rope has been used as the bulk of the facade material.

Maybe you are interested in tensioned fabrics, cable stayed structures, etc?

entirely? no.

it'd be REAL hard to build something only out of a material that has only tension capacity.

it usually ends up looking like this:

ahha well put! Don't forget the chain...lest someone make off with your structure in the middle of the night.

I think that is TreeKiller on a weekend field trip in rural Minnesota..

And here we see TreeKiller showcasing a material with near opposite properties. High compression strength and very low tensile strength, unreinforced concrete! A believe this was taken during an exchange program in Scotland that he attended......

office da did something with rope as an art instillation called “tensegrity in rope” at sci-arc. I think it is on there website, check it out.

Tensegrity requires more than just tensile members. It is about discontinuous compression members. Anyhow, it is basically a terrible structural design idea anyhow.

Thanks yes I should have left more details. It was for a parrot so was just looking for some inspiration for tensile structures etc. Perhaps the construction of an enclosure entirely from rope or woven willow....

It was for a parrot

priceless.

but don't parrots have sharp beaks that can easily bite through rope???

Parrots are among the most noble, gentle creatures on the planet, randomized! One would never bite through their tensile-rope-structure-cage like a mindless savage.

Haha priceless indeed! What I should have said was...its for one of those short projects at college design a self contained structure for a task etc and im looking at a place to preen/bond with a parrot! Make sense?
