Looking for some free cubicles. No budget to buy even used ones, which can be upwards of $1000 each. I am on the East Coast, Philly burbs. I've done craigslist search in areas around me but no luck. Just a bunch of places willing to give me free quotes.
how about those big diorama boards that you use for science fairs and whatnot, I imagine those would provide some visual privacy. Workspace you say? I'm working in a big fancy corporate office right now and I am using using an old door as my desk on makeshift steel tube supports.
Privacy walls are crucial. Plus, we'd have to buy the diorama boards. Just hoping to get an idea of defunct businesses needing who could use a tax write off.
...or you could do the next best thing... convince an architecture prof. that it would be a great design/build learning experience to have their students upfit your office. You will likely have to endure some pretty ugly and unfunctional cubicles and endure mock 'client' meetings and reivews, but if $5.00 science boards are out of your budget I'm not sure you'll have much room to do otherwise.
shanay - check with some local auction houses to see if you can find one which specializes in bankruptcy cases. they may not be totally free, but you could probably pick up a few for very cheap.
other option would be to contact the local herman miller/steelcase/knoll reps and see if they can work something out with you. those groups may be in a better position to take the tax break than a failing company.
lastly, check with a place like CORT, who gets merchandise back in off lease - they may have some older models they could donate.
You may have an architectural salvage joint in your town who is willing to donate for tax writeoff, assuming you have non-profit tax ID # to give them & receipt and all that; also, check for a green resource re-use type location in your town. Some of them have used cubicles and that's where I would go to ask for non-profit donation.
See if you have any industrial Liquidators in your hood. They usually buy everythingwhen a industrial company is bought out. The machines are what have the resale value. The front office furniture usually heads for dumpster. If your not in a big Hurry and they know it is for a non profit they might just kick it your way, if you ask them in a nice way. Best of luck.
