I am teaching an architecture and design class this semester for a program in Boston called Urban Scholars. My class consist of 15 7th graders. You can learn more about the program here: http://www.urbanscholars.umb.edu/
I am looking for some young (or old) FUN architects or interior designers who would interested in volunteering an hour or two to either
1. come to our class (which meets at UMASS, Tues and Thurs 4-6) and explain what you do and how you got to where you are.
2. let my class come to tour one of your projects, a LEED project would be awesome!! but anything local would be great
3. organize with your firm permission for my class to take a quick spin through your office
4. be a "client" of one of my students. I am giving them a final project that will have a program. They will have to develop a concept, plans, elevations, make sustainability suggestions, and present all to their "client". This one would maybe be a 3-4 hour commitment. You would meet with them once to critique and then come to their final presentation if possible.
Thanks!! I just moved to Boston. Graduated from UT (TN) in 04 and have worked with firms in the south the past 5 years. I am not working with a Boston firm yet, so my architectural contacts are REALLY limited. So any help anyone could give would be great.
You should take your class on a field trip to the Genzyme Building (on 3rd street in East Cambridge...convenient to red line at Kendall/MIT). It's a LEED-Platinum building designed by Benisch Benisch; my firm did a tour several years ago and I found it interesting and relevant. Website is here and they have a section on tours: http://www.genzymecenter.com/?source=genzyme.com
