Does anyone know where I could reference a document that gives "rules of thumb" for what information you show at a given scale? For example, what information is shown at 1:100 vs 1:500?
Graphic Standards has some information on this...or check Ching's "Architectural Graphics". i recall a section on drawing scale and the amount of information drawn at different scales. good stuff.

not my answer so take it for what you will
person, take a look at google maps and notice what you can see at a particular scale, chances are that will answer a lot of questions.

what you show is not really determined by scale so much as the purpose of the drawing.
