i have to create a diagram model of green and green the gamble house and my frame is construction units what does that mean i am so lost and this project is due Tuesday the 8th. Please help,
I HAVE TWO FRAMES TO SHOW FROM THE GAMBLE HOUSE FRAME ONE WAS PROGRAM WHICH I'M DONE FRAME TWO IS CONSTRUCTION UNITS AND I HAVE A HARD TIME UNDERSTANDING WHAT CONSTRUCTION UNITS IS. I WAS JUST HOPING TO GET MORE CONSTRUCTIVE ADVISE THAN SARCASM.
Can't you ask another student in your studio? I have no idea what you mean. What's a Gamble House? If you're looking for help, first tip is phrase your question in a way that others who aren't in your studio know what you're talking about. Speaking in parables will get you nowhere.
ask your studio professor or classmates... i have a vague idea of what you are trying to do but without taking that same course.. the expectations might be different. Email your professor early on so it doesn't seem like you are doing this assignment at the last minute. If you ask enough questions (even if you don't finish your assignment on time", you professor will be more understanding in evaluating your work.
i 2nd trace's advice...sleep deprivation can lead to wonderful moments of clarity. i would suggest that you don't try building a model while going on 24+ hours without sleep.
this is a really peculiar question to answer.
what is this "frame" you keep talking about?
what do you mean by "construction unit"? given that the Gamble House by Greene and Greene is of the Arts and Crafts Style, it sounds like you might be trying to say: Tectonics.
The Importance of Tectonics and Craft
Tectonics is both the making of a building and the rationale of its construction. It gives shape, scale, texture and warmth to architectural space.
by all the saints, please stop shouting. i can't sleep for all the noise.
vidok, some friendly advice.
if people can't understand you it means you don't make sense not that they are being assholes.
there are lots of people here who will help you sans sarcasm but if you can't keep cool when asking for info it tends not to go so well because you sound like a troll and then it just goes entirely down hill.
oh, vidok, you say one more word on this thread, i'll find out what studio professor you have and i'll call your uni and report your ass for not doing your own work....
vidok,
I do agree that your question is very confusing even tough I'm familiar with Gamble House! Remember that we don't know everything you know about the assignment, so putting as much information as you can will better your chances at getting some hints or suggestions.
i agree with you the whole studio is confused but i sat down and figured out what im going to show and even if its wrong my model is done nicely and hopefuly the teacher will get what im trying to show in my diagram model. Im only second year in B-Arch.
2nd year B-Arch? Well in that case the instructors are probably still in the process of trying to weed out as many people as possible and intentionally making things as confusing and misleading. If your class hasn't dropped in size by at least half by next year I would be surprised.
Although it's really great training for your first job when you have bosses that do exactly the same thing.
due diligence vidok, you've done zero, your first inclination should have been getting over your embarrassment, and ask the studio prof, what the hell, and not coming here and asking for advice. your second, should have been to wikipedia and a dictionary, not coming here. your third, would have been to struggle a little more, and not come here. your last hair possibly pulled from your head, then would have been to come here, and explain all of the other steps you've gone through. instead, you post 4 days before the assignment is due, with your pleas, and you don't see that as being, well, lazy?
el jeffe's question, while in your laziness, seems like sarcasm, judging from everyone's puzzlement, should have been a direct hint that no one knows what the fuck you are talking about.
you still haven't asked my question, since singlefin bailed you out are you going to cite him/her as a source, because you never came to that thought on your own.
i won't have to worry about calling your uni, you'll be gone soon enough.
its so sad that you are such an angry person. singlefin unlike you answered my question. are you worried that ill be your biggest competition? dont worry i wont be gone soon. be happy and thats not a way to talk to a lady.
i just want you to know that i have emailed my prof and havent gotten answer from him. I went on line and used wikipedia and didnt get anywhere with that. they gave us our project on friday and they were busy reviewing and not answering our questions they just gave us our case study and told us just do it. I dont know why you are making such a big deal that i asked a question?
to answer your question is no because i decided that i will show roof space/ wall space. I have no problem siting the source that i get help from. did i answer your question?
"i just want you to know that i have emailed my prof and havent gotten answer from him. I went on line and used wikipedia and didnt get anywhere with that. they gave us our project on friday and they were busy reviewing and not answering our questions they just gave us our case study and told us just do it."
i.e. the instructor wants to see how you read and respond to an assignment that is intentionally vague and probably has more than one correct answer but almost certainly many incorrect answers. He/She is looking to see how you think and creatively respond to the assignment and is probably expecting you to do more than one iteration of said assignment. Additionally the instructor is probably hoping that you discuss these problems with the other people in your studio and that as a class you work together to some degree.
Although this assignment has specific things it is accomplishing, in the bigger picture this is getting used to any number of design problems that will not have a direct answer. Architecture is not like Math where there is a defined formula, process and quantifiable answer but more like Science where things have to be tested and results can potentially be disproved by more testing. You should get used to the idea that doing something once will never be enough and that you need to be willing to start over at any given time.
All I'm saying is that you better get used to it because it's probably not going to get a lot easier.
you are correct im not disputing that i do work a lot with heavy load at school and at home with 2 kids. Sometimes it gets frustrating when i do work and produce a lot different models but not enough criticism we have so many students in our studio that i think they dont spend enough time with us to direct us in the right direction. And i know its not going to get easier but im sticking to it and im not going anywhere.
vidok, you, my biggest competition? you are not even my least worry. i won't have to worry about you getting licensed, because you'll be the one trying to get answers to the ARE from the previous test takers.
as for being angry. i know you newness to internet is clouding the receptors in your brain, but anger is not what this is, it's disgust.
true but i produce good work i have done woodworking so model making comes easy and my drawings id say im getting there, getting used to autocad, revit and rhino.
balance, symmetry, hierarchy, circulation, structure, solid/void.....do you have those diagrams? If you do, get rid of them, everybody can do those. Challenge yourself with more abstract diagrams! Second year ha? What happened to hand drawings people?
well first years 1 semester we did hand drawings but after that we started to use the computer, and its not my strength. actually we just started to do diagrams with circulation and symmetry, solid/void so for my first assignment was to make a diagram of the Gamble house showing the public and private space and materials and program and it was successful. and your right they have to be abstract.
for a second-year university student, you sound like you only just met the internet yesterday, vidok. for future reference, you will get the most helpful results if you write a clear and specific question, and try not to sound like you're just asking someone to do your work for you.
i would second what .._. .._ _._. _._ said - part of the task is working out how you will respond to a difficult question. The instructor probably doesn't have in mind exactly what he or she wants from you - or else you would have been told. it's up to you to decide what 'construction units' are, and find a way of analysing and presenting the house in those terms.
"and try not to sound like you're just asking someone to do your work for you."
This is the key. In design, the framing of the problem constitutes the solution to the problem, so when you ask other people to interpret for you in this way that's a big chunk of your work.
need help in my school work please

3 days to go, good luck! link

I will do this assignment for you for $700. Top quality.

hey vidok, does singlefin get credit for your grade, you little pissant...did you just wake up and discover the internets yesterday?
oh, vidok, you say one more word on this thread, i'll find out what studio professor you have and i'll call your uni and report your ass for not doing your own work....
man. this thread seems like a set-up for some good old fashioned trolling.
oh dear lord.. that picture freaks the hell out of me..
b3tadine
why are you so angry. asking for advise is not asking for someone to do the work for me.
oh and you can call my uni and report like im scared of you!

hahahaha. you're funny, vidok.
people can be so mean im hurt. sleepless nights and one question goes out of control all i asked was if anyone knew what construction units is.
to answer your question is no because i decided that i will show roof space/ wall space. I have no problem siting the source that i get help from. did i answer your question?

A brick is a construction unit. In this example a lego block is a construction unit.
one day before deadline...

thank you for the pics.
and as for you b3 i have nothing else to say you are just bitter and i dont know why but maybe because no one ever help you.
the countdown is funny ill let you know how it went but i have all my stuff done so today i relax.
if your done already, clearly you have not tried hard enough.
i utilize my time well
they asked for 6 drawings i have 9 they asked for a model i have my model plus 2 study models and my presentation panels.
It's quantity not quality!
true but i produce good work i have done woodworking so model making comes easy and my drawings id say im getting there, getting used to autocad, revit and rhino.

i never asked anyone to do my work i am absolutely capable in doing my own work! all i did was ask a question.
This is the key. In design, the framing of the problem constitutes the solution to the problem, so when you ask other people to interpret for you in this way that's a big chunk of your work.
is it possible to move on?
no.
