2 part question

newport2009

1. I'm starting M.arch this Monday. Did you find grid/graph notebook more helpful or regular ruled?

2. I noticed 3 of my classmates hold b.arch and have been practicing arch. in nyc. one of the firms i know well - my friend works there and it's a pure arch. firm, well established. How are people like myself w/no arch background graded against established architects? Obviously, their level of comprehension of the material and performance will be on a diff. level and the non archs will look elementary compared to them? How do professors judge such non arch students?

Thanks.

I do not know necessarily about architecture from such a formal perspective... but you can potentially bring a fresh approach to architecture by being an "outside."

When I ask in undergrad, the only art classes I could get into to complete my degree were sculpture classes (least full). Since I wasn't required to have taken all the theory courses, I was the worst art student ever.

I was, for some reason, an excellent "sculptor." I was one of only two people in the entire advance sculpture program to get straight As all the way through.

I had no idea what I was doing 95% of the time.

I do have a piece somewhere on exhibit that I have lost track of. If you ever run across a solid cedar wood table that looks like an enormous press... complete with 800 6" long galvanized nails... that's designed to crush fine china, please e-mail me asap.
