Everything seems to install fine...and then after licensing and all that has been taken care of, a fatal error pops up when the program starts saying "trying to save in local\temp folder" blah blah blah...
Sometimes I have found with Maya that each version they release is actually more of an upgrade than a standalone version. If possible, I would install 2008 first and then try this again.
so i have found that if i disable the video card, the program is working on the lower quality built-in card, so it works but the visual quality is low.
can anyone explain this? or maybe how i can change the settings on my video card. I have googled this initial error and i keep coming across "triple buffering" and turning it off in the "open GL" settings or something.
potentially stupid question but have you checked to make sure the video card is Maya approved? If yes, also make sure you updated the drivers for it as well.

download new video card drivers. i believe nvidia released new 190.x driver series about 3 weeks ago.
keeping those updated will keep you out of trouble.
not having an nvidia card will keep you in trouble.
