Hello all, I live in Seattle and I am brand new to this site and have read plenty of posts and I can see people usually get good advice so I have turned to the community for a question. I am finishing up my bachelors degree in business and I can pick between marketing, management or finance for my emphasis. What do you guys think would compliment a March which I would like to pursue at University of Washington after I graduate. Also...I do not have a lot of background for my portfolio, what are some suggestions what classes or such I should take to prepare a strong portfolio? Thanks!!
Any creativity in your portfolio will be helping you getting into the schools. The institutions know that you don't have a arch. background so they will look for anything that shows your intellect, creativity, ideas, craft etc.., so photographs, furniture design, construction experience anything.....
Finance. You can learn marketing on your own. Try to slip in some marketing classes, if you can. Read, read, read. That's one you can learn without classes, finance is a pain on your own.
If you can take real estate classes, that would be ideal.
For classes, take tons of drawing classes, 3D programs, etc., but mostly drawing. Architect's like good sketches and they work in the real world.
But damn, here I came expecting to be a wise ass and say "get the MBA", but you are already going for biz!! Tip 'o' the hat to ya.
Thanks Trace, that sounds like a reasonable conclusion about the finance... I have always drawn for fun and been pretty good at it, but yeah I will definitely take drawing classes so I have something to stuff in a portfolio!
Need help making bachelors degree degree decision!
