Moving from US to UK for 5 years or forever: how to go about registration in UK?

smash101

Hello,
I will be moving to UK in October/November to accompany my spouse who is going there to study. No job in line yet, I am thinking I will start actively looking when I am there...
Anyhow,
I am currently waiting on my last ARE exam score and finished with NCARB IDP, my plan is to become licensed in US before I move.
Since I will be in UK for a while and possibly forever I am thinking I should probably try to get my licensed there, which I hear is very hard to do.
Can anyone advise me, where do I start with this process? RIBA, ARB??? What to do? Or do nothing because the process is a dead end corridor?

Please help.

It's a massive ball-ache.

The ARB refuse to accept any qualifications (other than from the EU for some stupid reason, thanks Brussels) from other countries. There are even schools int he UK they won't recognise. The problem is that you cannot enter the part III registration process until you've been deemed to have satisfied their part II criteria. This involves have most of the work you've done at university with you, as well as a large chunk of change.

It smacks of a massive revenue gathering exercise, which is a bit rich considering they haven't exactly been outspoken in thier efforts to further protect the title.

I wish you the best of luck!

Did I mention that there's stuff all jobs in the UK right now?
