I am going to Paris for a week and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any architectural masterpieces/recent additions to the cityscape to visit, while I am there. Apart from the usual suspects (the national library, the louvre, versailles, etc), what are some other buildings that an architect could appreciate? Thanks for the help!
I know, as an example, that Jacob+Macfarlane just did a green envelope wrap for the docks of paris, or "porte d'austerlitz". That's one of the things I'd really like to see and photograph in person. Any others?
Go to the Galeries Lafayette Dept. Store-its about a block away from the Paris Opera House. Check out the six story art nouveau dome and staircase, its beautiful.
Besides the things already mentioned: Institute du monde arabe and Musée du Quai Branly (by Nouvel), the Citroën store by Manuelle Gaultrand, Check out the bridge by Dietmar Feichtinger near the library (as well as the Rue Massena housing), the Jussieu thing by Peripherique, also check out the Maison the Verre...
And check out www.mimoa.eu to get a decent overview of other stuff in Paris, there's quite a bit more of really nice stuff to see.
since you'll be in the area after seeing the library, and crossing the aforementioned feichtinger bridge (which is really neat) you might as well proceed into the adjacent park and see Gehry's Cinémathèque - one thats not super published.
Hello ORomaniuk, I read your post and really very nice info you share here on Paris. I am also agree with you that Paris is known for it's architecture. Well known and world famous The Eiffel Tower is best example for pairs architecture. Thanks for sharing nice info.
georges restaurant in pompidou (somewhere on the upper floors)- jakob+macfarlane
bibliotheque nationale- d. perrault
if you like interiors, maybe LV on champs-elysees
If you need some place to spend a rainy afternoon, stop in at the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine, immediately outside the Trocadéro Metro station. It opens late (11:00), but also stays open late on Thursdays (7:00).
