on the Commiserate threads of '08 and '09 I saw a lot of people who had gotten financial aid for M.Archs... Were these mostly merit-based or need-based? What are the odds of someone qualifying for merit-based aid? Is it extremely rare, or relatively standard? Obviously I understand that it depends on the quality of the portfolio and the candidate...
I got a mix of merit and need-based aid from most schools I applied to. It seemed to be reasonably common, but from what I gather what is called need-based aid is often given out based on merit.
That's pretty confusing... I don't want my parents to spend their retirements on this, and I can't afford to be plunged into debt with the economy as it is and architects not making that much to begin with.
Guess I gotta hope the schools I apply to really like me.
I got a full merit-based scholarship from UCLA.
I did not apply for it, but it seems that each committee has a number of scholarships available, and they choose the candidates that seem to " deserve " it.
Of course you can always apply, but I think that is more a need-based aid.
Average merit-based aid?
Hey all-

The GSD says that they only give out need-based aid.
GSD also has some merit-based scholarships they give out to incoming students.
