I wish verizon would stop being control freaks and get on board with the iPhone. I really don't want to switch to ATT because I constantly hear that the service is really bad, calls lost, bad coverage. Sadly, verizon likes to have more control over what goes on their phones (like stupid VCAST that no one uses) so it looks like I will never get my iPhone.
I got a gift card for the iPhone at the AIA convention, but if I get it I have to break my contract and pay the fine with T-Mobile ... still unsure, I keep hearing bad things about ATT.
Plus you cannot buy the iPhone alone, you must get it with an ATT contract.
... read too many horror stories about ATT (will not even support some of the functions of the phone at launch !?!?), i'm going with the Palm Pre as soon as my contract is out ...
i've had at&t for years and have never had any issues with the service. in fact, there have been times where i've been in relatively remote areas of the country (like rural oregon) and have gotten pretty good service while friends using other service providers couldn't get any service. at&t really isn't so bad.
I've had my first-generation iPhone for almost 2 years now, and I've never had any issues with AT&T. I'll probably upgrade to the 32GB iPhone 3G S at some point, but it's not a huge priority for me at the moment.
I've also had ATT for years and use in multiple states. Coverage is better than Verizon, in my experience. Been using the iPhone since the beginning. No issues with it or ATT.
im glad to hear the positive response. i do have to share a story though. my friends and i are having drinks in San Francisco just after we left the California Academy of Sciences. we are looking up things on you tube with my friends G1 from TMobile and also a Blackberry, not the touch one though. both are looking at videos and the third friend takes his iPhone out and wants to see what we are all laughing about. he kind of is taking a while and after about a minute ... no service ... he just got out-phoned (not sure if that's a word) but he did. i gave him a hard time the following day...
My friend has ATT with the iPhone and gets terrible reception at his wife's parents' house in suburban PA (we're talking calls not going through). I have an enV2 with Verizon and have no problems with reception, even when I visit them at the wife's parents' house. I've had Verizon in MA and PA, with travel to NY, WV, VA, NJ and never had a problem with the signal.
AT&T is fine, doesn't it actually have the largest coverage of any network since cingular merged with AT&T?
Saw the palm PRE yesterday... Looks pretty cool, it's smaller, feels alot more like a real phone with an iphone like interface, and a slide out keypad... but its only available from sprint i think... Let the phone wars begin...
I just like something pretty that I can wow client's with. They continually get blown away with video and animation, even the almost worthless speakers help.
Reception probably varies for every company. My family has Verizon and the reception is sketchy, while when I visit with ATT (with either my earlier Razrs or with the iPhone) was decent.
Cost is ridiculous on all data phones. I NEVER text or send emails, but I still have to pay $100 a month (cheaper than a bb, though).
I want a war on service plans. The phones will get better and better, but the plans dont' seem to do a damn thing.
My plan in Japan was the worst. My phone did everything, GPS and that crap, but you could take a picture of a Chinese character and it would translate, the camera was 5MP, scan bar r things at stores and to ride the train. It cost $.01. My plan on the other hand was about $40 (sounds ok) but it was more or less a debit account. I could make roughly 30 minutes of calls a month. Texts were much cheaper, so that's what you did. I think calls were about $.25 for 30 seconds and texts were about $.01. Everyone texts. The plan was crap.
Here with Verizon I pay $40 for 450 minutes, unlimited to other Vz users, free nights and weekends. Then I tacked on the $5 for 250 text messages, good during work hours or if you want to ask someone something but don't want to engage in a full conversation. I like to use it for punch lines too. You see something funny, can send a one liner to a friend. If I want, I get charged $1.99 for 1MB of data (email etc). Almost never use it. Did a few times when I was away, but I'm almost always near a PC OR I don't want to be anywhere near a PC, so it works out. I have one of those HP minis now too, so I can take that on trips and use free hotel wifi and what have you if I need to.
iPhone 3G S ... the "S" is for speeeeed!!
Been checking out the blog since this morning, seems worth going to ATT for ... no?

$80 a month for a phone is unreasonable....unless this phone can do my laundry and massage my back every night.

I played with the Blackberry Storm for a few minutes. It's kinda cool. I just don't need all that 'functionality.'

My AT&T coverage has been fine in Chicago. I think it varies city to city.
