When in great pain due to knowledge of eccentric political endeavours, smoke pot...when in terminal phase of a virulent disease to. But seriously, I just don't quite get the case of a new school of architecture in Canada. But building it in a suburban context isn't that big of a deal, then again, my plan A is Waterloo at Cambridge. I know more or less about UofM and Laval, but what I would really like to know is graduate prospect after a b.arch in either of these university. And hell yeah, Montreal is great!
they should make this place totally off-the-wall ultra experimental with no grades and no rules :D it could be ran by crazy people, and it will all be top secret, no one will know what happens inside. It will have its own shoe line, the school will have a uniform of whitelab coats - it will all have very little to do with real buildings, and boring shit like that.
Canada does need a new architecture school, badly. In Ontario there are only 4 schools that offer studies in architecture, which does not provide much choice. But SUDBURY, who on earth would study in sudbury? it not that its suburban (to be suburban you would actually need a populated downtown core) its the fact that it is the middle of nowhere, and so far away from any major city. And it would be very cold. I think it was the committee that was smoking pot.
it'd be great if ontario had another school of architecture. they should put it in windsor (or maybe even detroit) though. sault ste. marie might also be an interesting border location.
I believe the poison of choice in Sudbury is hashish, and their claim to fame is they technically are the largest 'city' in the world as they expanded their city limits to include surrounding mines for taxation purposes.
Why cant toronto have a third accredited architectural school - Ryerson, UofT and ....York?
The Royal Institute of Architecture will be a large wooded area, dotted with glass buildings, domes, underground tunnels, caves, lakes etc.
there will be profs mixed in with students no set hierarchy exists...time won't be kept, classes won't exist. There will be building materials and computers everywhere, but factions may rise to control certain areas, dictatorships will rise and fall. The economy will be completely student created and changeable. Profs will soon become known only as wise men. We will quest deep into certain areas of campus, to learn their knowledge. lord of the flies will eventually happen. . It will be pure adventure. This colony may dip into Interzone occasionally, but heroes will rise. it will be an arena allowing fear vs. love. Saying the name of a starchitect will be punishable.
This place would be sealed off, so NO fucking hippies could set around 'finding themselves' with bikers and ppl sitting around for free.
we would weed out all that shit.
if they make this place insane it will be famous, if they do what they probably will, it will be so boring and no one will care except the 100 students or w/e that go.
Rochdale...yeah sure, there seems to be enough schools in TO, but maybe York would be alright, how about a school in Victoria...or a bilingual school in Montreal

Ryerson isn't accredited yet.
I'd go to school in Sudbury. But then, I didn't enjoy living in downtown Toronto at all, so maybe it makes sense.
I also agree 1000% with danbo. Why not??

Rochdale College in TO comes to mind.
from what I read rochdale sounded fucking lame.
