Are there any archinectors that are current IIT grad students and can give me some insight into the housing available in chi-town?
Is it cheaper/ better to live on campus in iit apartments or to find your own place within the city?
What's the best apartment complex at iit for graduate students?
I am going to visit next month, but I just wanted to see if anybody could help me out beforehand...there are no previous threads about this topic either.
the northernmost mies building which is primarily apartment housing for grad students and phd students is actually pretty nice. I was inside it a few time and the rooms are liveable and obviously youre right on campus. Plus, if youre on the north side of the building, you actually get a pretty spectacular view to the city. Besides that, id try to avoid living in Cunningham. Bailey and Carman are both pretty decent buildings with bailey being the nicer of the two.
I would avoid living in the MSV if you can, thats the primary dorm and is populated with all the youngins... its relatively chill, but the rooms are terrible unless you can live in Fowler hall (i think that was the large roomed hall).
If you can afford living in the SSV (state street village) id recomend that. The rooms are a good size, the building is great, and its litterally right across the street from crown.
to some up...
Bailey, Carman - good
cunningham - bad
fowler hall MSV - good
graduate hall in MSV - bad
ssv - great
all in all, it really depends on your financial aid package. If you have room and board included in your scholarships or loan package, obviously use it and live in the dorms. If you will be paying on your own for Room and Board, you can almost assuredly live for cheaper if you find a room mate and an apartment in bronzeville or bridgeport.
hope this was helpful... and living in MSV wont be bad if you can afford a single room.
