Syracuse vs UVA for undergrad

Yossarian

I'm trying to decide whether to attend UVA or Syracuse right now. I wanted to get some feedback about the programs, so here I am. In particular I want to know whether either program places an emphasis on theory or technical aspects. If you know anything else about the two programs please post. Thanks.

It seems you've been accepted to two schools that have very similar pedagogies. Both place an emphasis on history and precedent. Both require a certain amount of technical understanding. Neither would be considered an avante garde design school. Having said that, you can certainly tailor your electives to be theory-heavy. Also think about where you want to work after school. Many Syracuse alumni in Boston and NYC, many UVA alumni in Wash DC.

Not just different pedagogies, but different degrees (or they used to be): SU is a 5 year BArch professional degree and UVA is a 4 year non-professional degree -- pretty signiificant difference.

I have a t-shirt from UVA, that a friend of mine who went there bought for me. I wore it to a jobsite one day when I was working for an electrician. The guy who cleaned the houses after us one day walks up to me and goes "Yene... Your shirt, it say "uva" and in my country, uva means "grapes!"

...just an anecdote. No clue how to solve or answer your question.
