Thanks for the feedback!

It's great to see that the reaction so far has been really good. Thanks for all the emails so far as well - I'll try to respond as soon as I can.

Big thanks to the crew, especially Javier, who has provided invaluable assistance (and somehow also found time to present his graduate thesis project a couple weeks ago at MIT).

A couple things to note:

1st, the speed is very slow right now due to a high level of traffic slamming the server. This will hopefully be resolved soon.

Secondly, I've noticed that a lot of people have registered but haven't activated their accounts. After registering, you should receive an email with a link that you click to activate the account. Some people may not receive this email due to spam filtering of unknown email addresses. If you did not receive this email, send us a note from the contact page with your username and screename and we will activate it for you.

I wouldn't do it if it wasn't so well designed. Paul put tons of work and time into this new system. We're really looking forward to everyone's participation.

Regarding the fact that a lot of people have registered but not activated their account:
If like me you are a hotmail user, the message you've been sent to activate your account probably ended up in your junkmail folder, it took me a little while to figure this out. it should appear as connect [at] archinect.com among the list of spams filtered by msn.

doberman - i edited the email address in your post so spam robots won't collect the email address.

does anybody know how companies like msn determine "spam" addresses. the email address used to send the verification emails is brand new and hasn't been used at all, besides sending verification emails. if anyone knows why these email may be filtered as spam, please let me know so i can fix the problem.

hey paul, whats with the clock thing? is the center of the world PST? i miss GMT myself and if only one clock is available, i would vote of GMT as a standard v. than PST. always know where i am in the world relative to GMT if you know what i mean.....thanks

The one confusing thing for me is in the gallery section. At first glance, the numbers at the bottom right of the image look like they link to other images rather than provide a way to rate the image. I suspect you will get a lot of 2's with the way it looks now. I know there is an explanation near the numbers but graphically it might be something to take a look at.

TED - interesting point. The time is currently set to PST, where the server is located, but we can adjust it to GMT if that's what the majority would prefer. Any other opinions?

anatomical gift - I've never even considered that but it makes sense now that you've pointed it out. Maybe I'll change it to stars. (or maybe I'll just ditch the rating system ...?) I'll add it to my growing list regardless.

Good point AG... Paul - during the beta testing, my first visit to the gallery section I did exactly that - hit 2 thinking it was the next pic. Then realized it was a rating system.

I agree with TED that the best 'International' time would be GMT. Personally I don't care as long as we all know what time we are set to.

With regards to the rating system below the pictures, I have had the same experience before...hitting the 2 thinking it goes to picture 2.
This might also explain why Patrick, Susan and I are getting lowish scores in the gallery. Next time, I promise to wear my astroturf dress, if I can find it.

Javier, don't forget you magical sliding goulashes with the matching ticket stub.

Clancy, do me a favor, get my dress from Holly Helin's house, Grab Anoulay and the magic tickets, and meet the east coast crew in NY. Wear the Gold Toothcaps and the Flourescent Avia running shoes.

First thing I did was check out the gallery... and accidentally rate somebody's project a "2", I think it's a little confusing... though I'm not the brightest...

Javier, I am single now, so I will be bringing diet tonic water and WET magic tickets ala toothcaps and buffalo wings! That dress is so 80's.

Paul,
i think you need to add a Friendster feature where the members can note relationship status thus avoiding embarassing moments like the previous one. MisQuoting Psycho-Mullet... "though I'm not the psychic-est"

Paul, for what it's worth, let me add my vote for the standard reference to GMT.

Thanks for all your work! The new site looks great!

paul great job!

the GMT thing is okay only if you can add the GMT tag after the time of your post. it helps when you are trying to explain to your boss you are not posting on their time.....

i would keep the rating system, but would change the numbers to stars. everyone likes stars.

as for the time, i'm going to have to go with GMT even though i'm in PST. we have to play nice w/ all of our lesser-abilitied friends in 'other' timezones. actually, i just prefer GMT.

The new site is really good, much more interactive, with a much richer content. One can easily see just how much work has been put into it, that's quite amazing.
I'm still in the process of exploring and familiarizing myself with all the new features and have just one comment so far: I find the navigation and rating somewhat confusing in the image gallery section. When you get to the image gallery you navigate between page 1&2 by clicking on the numbers at the bottom of the page. Once inside a particular category of the picture gallery I pressed on the numbers underneath the images assuming this would take me to the next image and I actually ended up rating the images instead. (i know it says 'rate this image' next to it but still...) In my opinion the navigation should prevail over the rating and for consistency's sake I think it would better to have the 'prev-next' buttons where the ratings are. or maybe i'm just too fussy. anyway, great site and thanks a bunch for all the hard work.

cool.
I also kinda miss the old logo of the unfolded globe. I think that the 'archinect' word looks a bit alone and plain on the home page and could do with a 'picturemate' (not necessarily the old one though)

Paul, do you think it would be possible to have an "edit" button for the user to be able to modify a post or a topic that he/she created?

It would be nice to see a description of the system.

Well, if you're talking about the edit button, it's quite common in professional or more specialized forums, such as this one
http://www.chaoticdimension.com/forums

Of course, that's also one of these forums where you need to register. Basically, once you log in, you can view and edit all the messages that you have posted. It can be useful sometimes, first for mispelling or bad writing (which happens a lot to me since English is not my original language, and also because I'm too lazy to check my mesages...), but also for updates on informations that you gave and so on...
