I applied M.Arch program and admitted to 3.5 year prog. which will start in Summer 10.
I recieved an e-mail with a PDF attached to it this morning. I'm an international applicatant that's why they would have send me an email instead of a mail.
sandiego & aquariumDrinker - I too am still waiting on UW, and no longer is it patiently. I now stalk my front window almost every day, quietly cursing the mailman when he doesn't bring my much needed answer. I too have called more than once, and no, she will not give out results.
aquariumDrinker - thanks for the new update, though... I'll be waiting for the mailman with more fervor tomorrow!
My husband says that obviously we cannot assume we have been rejected or we would have been gotten rid of right at the outset. Not sure whether or not I believe him, but it's a nice thought.
Dear _______, (that's me trying to stay anonymous, although i'm not.)
Congratulations! I’m pleased to inform you that you have been accepted into the M.Arch 1 program at the Southern California Institute of Architecture. After careful review of your application, the Admissions Committee is confident that you have what it takes to succeed in our rigorous program.
Your official acceptance packet will be mailed to you shortly, but I wanted to let you know the good news as soon as possible. Once again, congratulations, and we look forward to having you join the SCI-Arc community!
Best,

nick_ i feel really bad, shelby is super cool and it would be quite rude of me to respond to her email right away. i will respond this week for sure though, probably by tomorrow or wednesday. i'll let her know that in consideration to those on the waiting list, i'd like to let her know that i'll be enrolling at berkeley. best of luck!!!
ok, cool. i'm glad you agree. i didn't want you to think i was making you an empty promise or something weird like that. i really don't want to be a jerk though.. it's important to be polite about these things though.
i bet making a marriage work is probably just as difficult as making it though architorture school. hopefully, it's less torturous though.
JUST GOT INTO SCI ARC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM CRYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND SCREAMING!!!!!
teenasee!!! that's awesome. i will always have a special place in my heart for sci-arc. it's an amazing school and wonderful environment. congrats!
wear lots of black. learn how to skate. pick up smoking. oh, and pick the the very obtuse and pretentious architectural dialog. i'm talking shit, but i love it.
don't pick up smoking. i was kidding about that. though i think arch school will force me back to bad habits :/
Columbia: Waitlisted (for urban planning)
SCI-Arc: Waitlisted
UIC: In
Wow, call me crazy, but I'm seriously thinking about waiting it out (past April 15th, thus giving up my spot at UIC) to see if a spot opens up at Columbia or SCI-Arc. I would really REALLY love to attend one of them.
I'm crossing my fingers and praying to Buddha for a miracle!
I'm leaning toward Yale for their extensive design build but am torn by sci-arc's fabrication... Where should I go!? I never expected to get into Harvard or MIT...
@nicholasbaily: my spot at gsapp was for m.arch1, and i'm giving up 20K there too.
@pandaeyes: yah, sci-arc is rad! so i really hope you get in! i'm already all torn up about going long distance on my relationship, and sci-arc is wayy far for me. but ah, i will dream of the sunshine. =)
@thedubshow: i'm pretty torn between yale and the gsd too. yale has the most beautiful shops i've seen! and i love that the first years get to build a house.
@babybokchoy
wow quite some schools!!! I have MArch 1 at GSAPP also... I am feeling the pressures of money and living away from my wife... I feel that SCI-Arc would be a good fit for me... as word2bird said I wear black, skate, play too many musical instruments and do some random shit as architecture haha... Umich with money though? hard call I'll have to make
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone's hitting Parsons and RISD's open houses next week and would like to either Amtrack it up to RI together or let me get in your car.
-Ann
ps.
Sci-Arc = in
RISD = in w 10
Parsons = in w 16
Tulane = in w 20
Harvard, Yale, Pratt, Columbia = out
Waiting on GA Tech
3.7 GPA, 720 and 590, painting degree, 26 year old F from that ATL
alex11_ berkeley's open house is on monday, 4/5. i understand from others that they still haven't heard from berkeley about admission decisions. i have no idea what that means... though it doesn't hurt to remain hopeful... i wonder why schools take soo long to decide or process admissions in waves. curious
sci-arc is a good choice to those considering going. it's very casual and dog friendly. i'm a fan of the train depot and overall environment. my only criticism is that eric owen moss. i'm just not a fan. though i don't think that should stop anyone. between sci-arc and ucla, i'd still choose sci-arc. but that's also because i've already spent enough time in westwood and prefer downtown los angeles. sci-arc also has a more creative feel
The results are in (finally!) Looks like I'm 4.5 out of 6!
GSD MArch2 - Waitlist
AA_DRL - In + $
GSAPP_MSAAD - In
UPenn MArch2 - In
UT MArch2 - In
MIT - out
I think I'm gonna call GSD and see if they will tell me where I am on the waitlist. Has anyone had any luck doing this?
I'm having a hard enough time deciding between AA_DRL and GSAPP without throwing the GSD back into the mix! I assumed the small envelope would be a rejection.
How do I convince them to tell me where I am in line?
Got my UPenn packet today...wish they would have offered me more money but oh well at least it's SOMEthing...I got $2,000 merit-based and a need-based grant of $4,500...but i'm pretty sure i'm going to GSAPP anyway so waitlist ppl, you can have my spots at UPenn and GSD. Enjoy!

If anyone got offered $$$ at UT Austin and is planning on going somewhere else, now is the time to tell them so they can give me your money! Seriously, I've been told that I'm high on the list and there is a decent chance that money will come through for me, but other people need to reject it first. Please?
Rascuache, sixtrain, and anyone else who was at the UT open house -- any thoughts?
Who else is going to UW on Friday? Archinect rendezvous?
While we're doing all this trading of places, someone who got offered money at GSAPP who isn't planning on going please reject so I can get some more $$... please i'm desperate!!!
Any comments weighing Cornell vs. SCI-Arc vs RISD?? I'm in at all three...know and love Cornell...but would I be shooting myself in the foot if I go there for my second degree (M.Arch I)? I went for a very different program undergrad but also got in AP... general thoughts appreciated!
Is the main difference between Yale and Columbia that Yale is more practical and Columbia more theoretical? It's so frustrating that there isn't any student work on the Yale website, and I still haven't received the dean's letter/retrospecta. I'm an international applicant but going to both open days to try and decide.
Does anyone have any interesting facts/comments they would care to share about either program?
I'm in the same boat - going to the open houses to learn more about each programme. I'm almost sure it's coming down to GSAPP vs. YSOA for me.
What I could gather from my minimal research is that Yale does offer immediate hands on experience (the building project) and better fabrication facilities (indication of type of work?), but has enough diversity among faculty and studios to not have a single ideology/direction/focus. Columbia is also diverse, but apparently emphasizes computer assisted design and mostly conceptual work (best part is the advanced studios).
Both programmes are stellar, but I suspect they turn out very different designers, so it's down to your preferences and goals. I'm favouring Yale right now.
To those who got into SCI-Arc, what information does it have when you log in to the website? I applied to a post graduate program that had a notification date the same as MArch admissions. I can't seem to find anything when I log in. I know they sent out some emails, but did that e-mail coincide with information located at my.sciarc.edu? They may not be on the same schedule. Okay.
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!

Still waiting for "Rejection" from the GSD. Be quick!! I have to buy my tickets ASAP!
Also wait listed at Sci-Arc via the website.

I will Prob be giving up my spot at Columbia too so you take that and I'll take the SCI-Arc eh?
Thanks, babybokchoy!!
Nicholasbailey, I'm waitlisted for urban planning at Columbia, not architecture. Not sure that would help you.
Any Canadians in here?
Wondering about responses from UofT specifically.
@the dubshow
do you have money to any of them?
@nicholasbailey
Yes, but money isn't an issue for me.

@tzch
I've seen a few UofT posts on the Grad Cafe, it looks like it's only acceptances with fellowships/scholarships so far.

I got it in the mail today. I also got my UPenn packet today.

Thanks for your info! So it seems that the GSD is sending their waitlisted letters at the same time.
Btw, has somebody received any packages from UCLA?
Hello Again...

Now, the easy part - DECISION.
