A friend recently asked me if there was a term or word for buildings that resemble the products made by their owners ( buildings that look like picnic baskets, hotdogs or oranges for instance ). Just wondering if anyone here has heard of such a term or word as objectomorphic seems non-specific and they're not a folly so...any thoughts ?
Exactly what I was thinking when I read the thread title. I remember few episodes: that one, and another one when the blueprints slipped out of the tube when Greg was delivering them on his bike, or was that the SAME episode? More than a powder puff, it looks like that thing that landed to pick up E.T. (the good little guy, not Entertainment Trash).
It would be awful if a client came to you and asked you to make their dildo factory look like their product. That was require "verticality " (sort of like a "vertical studio") and thus be inefficient. The reality is that a production situation needs to be laid out horizontally. Maybe they are manufactured close to the tilt-up warehouses in the San Fernando Valley of L.A. where porn films are made.

duck?
I think the duck is probably the term your looking for. The opposite of a decorated shed. Refer to Robert Venturi and his studies on Las Vegas.
A tad more prosaic a word than i expected but fits the bill perfectly if you'll forgive me the pun. Thanks.
Oh, sorry. I meant that post for the "whta are you eat for thanksgiving thread?" terrible thing it is to get ones wires crossed.
Gimmick is the word you are looking for.
"Novelty Architecture" perhaps - see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novelty_architecture
I feel as though inappropriate jokes could be made about Zaha's new Qatar world cup stadium....
Hey now! Don't be hating on Zaha's giant...um...thingy. It's part of a long tradition.
Take a look at the term "Architecture Parlante".
Yes. "Mr Brady, I want it to look like a powder puff."
Nicely done.

"Fits the bill perfectly..."
Was there a pun intended there?
