Does it seem to anyone else out there that the level of communication/interaction/discussion over this website (and many others) has severely dropped off? i don't comb the site(s) daily, but it just seems that there are hardly any new discussions or posts out there anymore.
perhaps a result of the failing economy getting everyone down (i.e. busy looking for jobs/work), but as a sample of what's to come, it's pretty scary how easily disconnected we become...
What do you mean -- is it so that you are looking for some one capable of sharing exiting new idears or do you mean what is wrong is, that no one bother share anything, as the only answers you get, is from those only waiting for someone to harass ?
Are you missing qualified oppoments and tired of anyone being a specialist in his own mind, or the whole depressing attitude, where those you don't find here, simply has been bullied out ?
I wonder who would dare publish fantastic new visions here, sharing positive and exiting new way's -- exactly what you don't find, is what could fight the crisis.
hmm try going to other forums (engadget, gizmodo etc, which are some of the ones i visit daily)...the 'level of discussion' is, actually, nonexistent. Archinect, by comparison has a lot more content per se in the discussions.
probably because it is more liberatory, much like design community but with out the random 1 post spamers, where as other forms have moderators who if hurting from this economic downturn combined with there power and control issues leads to even more abuse that usual.
At Archinect anyway, I've definitely noticed a marked decline in the shear volume of posts here on a daily basis. When I used to go on the "simultaneous display" list of the forum posts it was not uncommon by mid afternoon to see the "updated" column show the same day's date for the whole page. Now it's not uncommon to have less than half of the threads be updated in the course of any given 24 hours.
When I look back, it seems that a lot of what's missing now is a lot of the silly (and sometimes downright juvenile) behavior that used to overrun the board. (Which, to a certain extent, I actually miss.) As for a theory as to why that went away, it may be partially attributable to people who used to be "regulars" here moving on to social networking and/or chat programs.
I'm not sure I agree that the quality of what's left of the discussion around here has slipped any lower than it ever was. It's still basically a constant rehashing of the same core topics (schools, pay, IDP, ARE, AIA, laptops, drafting/3d software, etc.) with an undercurrent of cultural/current events discussion all punctuated by the occasional brilliant/intelligent/thought provoking/awareness-raising/controversial topic.
I have noticed that people have been a little more nasty or snarky toward each other lately. Maybe that's a product of these times.
this discussion has me bummed about the prospects of involvement on archinect. and now, being on archinect reminds me of that sadness. as a result, I'm afraid I can no longer be involved on archinect.
Are we going down the tubes?

not getting down on anyone, just a weird feeling.

How do we improve the chemistry around here? Oysters?
yes, but it'll happen at different times...
