I'm a studio art major with one year left. My emphasis is on graphic design. I will be applying to M.arch 1's next year! I have already had an internship with graphic design and I have the option to do another internship with a different company this semester.
Will admissions look highly at the fact i've done a couple internships with graphic design? is one good enough? or will two show them that i have experience in different area's and i take my work seriously? or does it just not really matter? I know the most important thing is a portfolio but will this have any weigh to it at all?
Unless you've worked for a superstar firm, work experience usually does not mean much when applying to architecture grad school. However, I do believe interships are important to your overall education and preparation for entering the workforce. If your schedule can afford it, it would be beneficial to take as many internships as you can get. Perhaps you could consider working as a graphic designer for an architecture firm - this will allow you to begin to understand how firms operate. As a graphic designer in an architecture firm, you might also get a glimpse of the marketing department, which is not something every intern has an opportunity to do.
