I'm a student of architecture and part of my project is separating public & Private spaces. In my building, I need to have the ground & first floor as shop spaces and the 2nd is living accommodation. However, I'm unsure how to go about making the distinction between the two. I've been thinking of somehow using the stairs but I don't know how to go about that. Any ideas?
Usually, when we are discussing public vs private separation, we mean just in the living spaces. Like: you don't want your guests in the living room looking into your bedroom or bathroom. That's why 2 story homes work: downstairs is public (living, dining, kitchen) and upstairs is private (beds and baths).
You can also use the same logic for business, a store, offices, etc.

Separation of Public and Private Space
Hi all,
I'm a student of architecture and part of my project is separating public & Private spaces. In my building, I need to have the ground & first floor as shop spaces and the 2nd is living accommodation. However, I'm unsure how to go about making the distinction between the two. I've been thinking of somehow using the stairs but I don't know how to go about that. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
