2009: The Year of Prog.

PodZilla

I hereby declare 2009 the year of Progressive Rock.

King Crimson, Camel, ELP, Porcupine Tree, Genesis, Umphrey's McGee, even The Doors, all deserve a place in our hearts and minds this year.

Anyone else with me on this?

I listened a lot of KC old records and saw Robert Fripp playing in this place in 2007, so that was probably my 'most Prog Year' of the 21st ct so far...

add Focus, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Can to your list

I've been listening to a lot of what might be considered new prog recently.

For anyone who's interested, check out the following insanely good bands: Battles, Jaga Jazzist.

I can no longer see/hear the term "Prog Rock" without recalling this gem:

"Sadly, the field of stoner architecture is usually dismissed by conventional architects, who insist on clinging to such tired, ossified notions as functionality, coherence, and basic structural integrity," Gordon said. "Someone like Donovan can go a long way toward dispelling the myth that stoner architecture is all just arrested adolescents scribbling whacked-out bullshit in dimly lit basements while turgid '70s prog-rock plays in the background. I mean, sure, it definitely is that, but it's also so much more."

Gordon then lost his train of thought.

More Stoner Architecture here. This is one of my favorite written items of all time.
