for a new, minimal sofa on a budget I'd recommend the Lillberg sofa from Ikea. It's pretty cheap, sleak, comfy and durable. I've had it for a little over a year now, and I've been very happy with it. My car was destroyed by a bus on the way home from purchasing it, but I still think it was worth it.
I would just like to take this opportunity to endorse FLM's Lillberg sofa as I have sat on it on multiple occasions and been completely satisfied. Well, when he provided beer...and candy corn.
phu - hvidt's an interesting guy. we found one of his armchairs (kind of a swooping teak arm on beech legs. it's all knockdown) literally out for the trash, on a hugely traveled street in davis square in cambridge. think a bank was throwing it out because it didn't match the noveau traditional that was in the lobby. pristine condition.
at any rate, hvidt's been one of those guys who just didn't have quite the level of success to make him a rock star like juhl or kjaerholm, but the work is first rate.
outed.. wow that's a great find. it's not the boomerang chair is it? now that I have the sofa, this is the next piece I'll be looking for since I don't have a nice easy chair and it would compliment it nicely:
very true about Hvidt. I was finding it difficult to track down much information about him. he has a very impressive portfolio of work; it just doesn't seem to come up that often.

Beautiful couch phuyake. Even better that it's comfy. That was going to be my next question.
who needs comfort? it looks so much cooler without the cushions...
haha phuyake.. i was gonna respond that ..."i was like a child that wandered into the middle of a movie and..."
but i was tryin to stop my digressing...i've seen the big lebowski way too many times...almost every time i was hungover in my early thirties.

lars, to continue the push, I've watched the Big Lebowski from my Lillberg couch many times.
lars I can tell you're a good man.
and thorough.*
*that's my last lebowski quote. I watched it again last night on my new couch.
