isn't that article just saying we should bring back glass-stegalll? i agree. we should separate bank's commercial lending activity from investment. our economy generally functioned better for everyone when banks were not allowed to gamble with their customer's assets.
if banks want to operate in a free market where they get to make as much profit as they can, then let them. as it is, the government protects their losses with the fdic, so the banks get to take as much profit as they want, with the rest of us picking up the tab for their losses. when the government step in to protect institutions like that, it should be for the benefit of everyone rather than the personal accumulation of wealth for a few people.
