I have searched the threads and I have found one or two threads that cover this but, just to get a fresh perspective on the subject what is your opinion on including professional work in your porfolio that you are using for grad school?
I have worked for about 2 years and I have seen 2 decent size projects go from about DD's to CA. These projects are'nt really highly designed projects but there are certain things I like about them. Should I include these projects? and if so what should I include?
I just sent my portfolios to GSD and GSAPP and have loads of professional work in it, but in the offices i worked in, the professional work is very similar to academic work, and alot of stuff was done by me and not by a group. I know in the GSD portfolio guidelines, there is a section on professional work vs. academic....mainly saying be very precise what work is your own, and what work is a group.
I didn't put any sketches in my portfolio or photographs, just loads of architecture projects i worked on.. drawings, models, renderings, diagrams, etc etc .i think i might regret it...not sure yet....
i wonder what people are going to say in this thread tho....
just remember that the review panel really doesn't care about professional work that you've done for somebody else. put some in, of course, but be super explicit about what you did on each project... whether it was renderings, or modeling... specifically what part of the production you did.
professional work should be focused as "skills" you possess rather than "design aethetics" Most interns level work is a question of Authorship, and they know that.
My "friend" on the admissions board told me this...

You want to show the breadth of your experience in your portfolio. Include the best images of both projects.

Sounds about right. They aren't going to let you in based on some cad files you did while an intern.
Put some in, but keep it minimal and limit it to something that is impressive, as ff suggests.
