southern CT has pretty much the highest salaries in the country...why would people pay $5k to live anywhere? if you can live on a 36th story penthouse with 360 degree views of the entire region and have a two block walk to work, i think that's pretty cool.
there's a lot of rich yalies. i assume most of the units will be closer to $1-2k than $5 anyways.
it's nice to see some improvement come to new haven. if we got a grocery within walking distance, got rid of the threat of crime, oh, and moved the entire city to brooklyn or echo park or something instead of CT, we'd be all set.
;)
that said, all of the yalies but me seem to love new haven
i loved new haven as an architecture student. lots of marvelous failed an not-so-failed 60s experiments. best parking garages.
5k is ridiculous. are the $700/m 3-br attic apartments on chapel street no longer there? is that so totally late 90s?
at first glance i think this will suffer the same fate as most of the recent spiffy new developments downtown by disregarding the local context and the still fairly unhelpful relationship between university and city. or, in other words, pretending that this is just a yuppie college town.
A lot of young professionals and Yale faculty live in Wooster Square, which is 3 blocks farther from the campus than this project is. There's an astonishing amount of residential conversion and new construction within the downtown area, so I'm sure the market is there.
new haven breaks ground on $5k/month, 500-unit apartment tower
pretty amazing but makes sense with the multi millions of SF of new yale development nearby.

p.s. it seems the tower will be pretty unattractive compared to most new manhattan towers, though
For $5000 a month in New Haven, I hope they're including hookers and an open bar.
LOL LIG! And you're right....
no offense to new haven, but why would anyone pay 5k/mo to live there?

... though i might still prefer a beach house 10 minutes away, which could be had for $2 or 3k.
thing is that people in NH already pay $3k or $4k per month for penthouses that aren't even on the 36th floor
if i had 5gs to blow on a pad... i would be buying up buildings and making things happen.....
I could probably rent an entire city block in Cincinnati for $5k a month.

more like $1000/mo for a 1-br on chapel st...
i love how they market this shit:
"...Now they’ll say, “They razed parking lots and put up a paradise.” 360 State: Where it’s happening."
...looks to me like a nice filing cabinet for young professionals and widows
This is horseshit.
i'm not what "young professionals" there are here in new haven who would desire to live that far from campus...

the way i figure my rent..... amount of hours i'm actually at the place renting per day x $100...... average of 500-1000 a month....
