So, with the market turning sour and rumors of mass layoffs and hiring freezes, thought it would be interesting to see what you all have heard or know as fact....
Anyone care to share what offices they know have let people go, are about to, or stopped hiring completely?
- Staff of 60 in the DC office
- About 350 firmwide...
- First round of layoffs came in April (only one from our office was sacked and 16 at the HQ)
- then came an anouncement of new hires!!! WTF??? We were shocked.
- Second round of layoffs in August. 22 at the mothership office and 3 in our office
- I began searching for a new gig mainly to cover my own ass.
- No Christmas party talk
- September - we were given the "No bonuses and a salary freeze" talk
- October - I was given a substansial offer at a pretty solid firm (government, judicial, and higher ed work) -- I accepted.
- Hiring Freeze officially implemented
- I was one of four people to leave this firm.
- Talk of a MAJOR third layoff in January. Everyone is scared.
One large corporate firm laid off 70 people in Chicago this past week, with another round in a few weeks if things don't pick up fast. Many friends are out of jobs here.
Chicago market has officially been hit, and hit hard!
Dubai is not invincible as it wanted the world to think it was.
small office, 7 people, in CT
1 week notice, no severance or anything
everybody except the boss got laid off, including his daughter!
same deal, no money was coming in.....there was work, but a couple projects progressed a little slower than expected and a couple clients weren't paying
Chicago HAS been hit hard, I've been trying to find one for 3 months now....not knowing if I should take a break sending out applications nobody reads for a while, I'm kinda waiting until Obama gets in and people get some confidence back. ;)
