I'm a student at the Boston Architectural College and I've put together a survey that investigates attitudes about modern architecture.
Please try it out. If you find it interesting, pass it along to anyone else you might think would be interested. The more responses, the more varied the respondents will be and the more compelling the results.
I'm always interested in research, and popular attitudes toward architectural styles is a fascinating topic for me. That said, the (mostly) repetitive list of somewhat strange adjectives kept me from continuing past the tenth image or so, and I exited. I could only check "straightforward" so many times, and none of the other descriptors made sense to me.
If your research is still in the design stage, maybe consider a wider range of terms? Or a scaled response (1-5, or 1-10) to positive or negative (or other, more specific) assocations, perhaps?
yeah, the adjectives aren't working for me. i'm too familiar with these buildings for any of your adjectives to express my feelings towards them. calling crown hall "sophisticated" is a little weird, but none of the other adjectives made any more sense. i think citizen's scaled response idea might produce better results.
Agree with the above posts. I stopped after 4 images. Horrible adjectives and they keep switching places from one image to another. Way too time consuming to participate.
probably having the words "greatbuildingsonline" in the corner of half the pictures is not a good idea either. an architect would probably ignore it, but a lay person might use that as a clue to how they should vote rather than how they would vote
You're adjectives don't work at all, I'd prefer: Really like, like, no opinion, dislike, really dislike.
Oh, btw, only an architecture student/teacher would use the word "idiosyncratic" on an online survey. If you're aiming this toward the general population that's not a word to use.
Thanks for the feedback; I now realize it takes longer than I expected to (and requires more patience) to get through than I had intended. I changed the settings so that you can leave and come back as long as you are at the same computer--if any of you want to finish.

Do we get to know the results?
Maudite,

Best of luck, regardless.

I third the comments above
Either a quantitative scaling, or a blank field where you can enter your own response if qualitative scaling is really what you are after.
If you get enough responses you could perhaps make a wordcloud out of the entries.

leave it to architects to redesign the survey instead of answering the questions. not that it's not warranted, but...
What's the problem?
Aggressive, stark and awkward were the only words I needed!
Villa Savoye did look precise though.
funny, I called it precise too.

i've never heard a building referred to as dowdy - a grandmother maybe
I used dowdy once, the AEG factory.
That roofline reminds me of a Babuschka.

I'll be posting results in about 3 weeks.
Thanks, everyone. The survey is now closed.
