Check out the jewelry she wears often, gold can seen "old", most girls like silver...
If she's youngish check out heatherwang.com (from Mass, though, not NY) she handmakes all her jewelry and it's all amazing and packaged nice, you could give something unique (but not ugly/gaudy) and affordable (you could get a set)
Word of Advice....Invest in a loupe when buying jewelry. My father is a master jeweler here in NYC and I was taught at a young age to identify stones and such. With the magnifier, you can see any imperfections.
Jewelry in New York
The one year anniversary with my girlfriend is coming up, and I figured I would get her a piece of jewelry.
Being a classy lady she likes things sleek and golden. Knowing architenectors, I know you all like sleek things too.
Where in New York could I find interesting non-gaudy jewelry?
Wow, you can afford stuff?
I'd be lucky to be able to buy one of those plastic Halloween spider rings. Fun times.
Well, it is either buying something or getting silently strangled at night. After some serious deliberation I decided on the former.
At most $200 I was thinking.
Man....
No wonder I'm slightly above mildly retarded when it comes to women ... I don't know their jewelry.

Asiatic, she likes things that are sleek and golden. I have successfully given her some jewelry before, and know that she will appreciate it.
Some stuff from Heatherwang was nice. Too bad they don't have any of it in gold.
I saw some stuff from alexis bittar:

Try the Hasidics on 47th Street, they always got "going out of business" specials going on.
