The look and design of the University Center is as innovative as the idea itself. The striking, state-of-the-art building was completed in 2005 and has won awards for its architecture. The outer façade is brick, evoking a traditional university. The inner courtyard is curving metal, encircling a courtyard crisscrossed by sidewalks.
"The curving nature of the building was meant to be enveloping, bringing together diverse groups," says Hilary Ward Schnadt, associate dean. Inside, there are three groupings of classrooms on each floor, with a conference room for each, and little nooks and crannies with living room furniture for small group work. The whole building is wireless.
