I've read through all the portfolio/MLA related threads, but still had a question to those who are applying this time of year or for those who have applied.
I've never had to make a portfolio before so I'm a little lost on the making of it. I have material to put in the portfolio, so that's not the problem, but the problem is physically assembling it. Do people usually use printing services and put it in a folder? Do they bind a book? Use indesign to design the layout then have it printed somewhere?
Any feedback on this particular issue is much appreciated, thanks.
these days, most folks use their computer. indesign is the best software if you have access to it and already know how to use it.
photoshop & illustrator have consumer grade versions that are affordable and can do a passable job laying out images. you can also try word or powerpoint.
most folks print at home, just use good inkjet paper - you're not graded on the quality of the paper. Just make sure the print quality isn't a distraction. Yes, you can have somebody else print a PDF for you.
back in the day, I laid out stuff by hand then color copied the originals to make the prints.
binding is nice but not required. itoya profolios won't earn you any demerits and convenient (just xacto out any unused pages).
my current portfolio, (hoping to apply to m.arch 2 this yr) > laid in indesign, printed on good paper, not too expensive, but not the normal stuff, and wire binding, it has a light quality thats nice,,
im not sure about the acetate on the cover page though, but i havent found an alternative
