Architecture in the Landscape

Hello, I would like to open a discussion on a topic I have been struggling for quite a while. I am a student with a B.A. In Arch. and am doing my graduate ed. in Landscape arch. I have always been really interested in the relationships between everyday architecture and the vast landscape they occupy. I feel as if there is a life's work to study and analyze this interior exterior boundary condition. With the horizontally expanding cities and consumption of the landscape, it is at least our responsibility to minimize the impact and blend the line to enhance our lives and other ecologies. Architecture in complete harmony with landscape, vise versa.

This "symbiosis" of the natural environment and the man made draws plenty of inspiration in me to study this in depth. I feel that there is great potential to transform ever expanding horizontal cities like Houston with a more robust and meaningful purpose for landscape deeply integrated to architecture. One married to the other. However, I feel some opposition, or should I say indifference to the topic or area in general. I feel as if I may be meddling in the backwaters if both disciplines by people's reactions to this. I routinely get the eye roll, awkward silence, and the very deviated filler comments.

I, as a student, highly value and welcome professional opinions informed by real world experience. Am I wasting my time? I feel it is a huge opportunity to really reshape the future of our American cities. What are your opinions over the topic?

While being dizzily and blindly submerged in the academic world, I feel like a reality adjustment is in place.
