This law has been on the books for over 20 years.... Any attempt to blame the current meltdown on this law is nothing more than attempt by right-wing bigots to blame minorities and deflect attention from their own failed ideology.
there is enough blame to go around if we're blamin'. the bush 'ownership society' policy is not dissimilar from the clinton policies. this wasn't necessarily BAD POLICY from either side, but it was badly mismanaged, overleveraged, and abused.
let's not throw out both administrations' best efforts to bring the whole country up. our response to the current crisis shouldn't be over-reaction. a well-intentioned group of initiatives were horribly abused and many investors over the past decade have gotten very rich while the getting was good.
