parking on the roof

I'm looking for built precedents of buildings with parking on the roof. The Fiat headquarters in Turin comes to mind, but nothing else. Are there any others?

Thanks.

If I understand your question, gustav, I'm looking for design precedents as opposed to details, products, etc.

enzo, this is not exactly a parking on the roof, but a building that spirals on itself creating its own roof and continous parking space. Well I just think that is a great building, sadly it never got finished, it dates from the 1950s.

There is a Pdf file here
with more information about it, but there is only an abstract in English the rest is in Spanish.

The Home Depot in Hollywood has a rooftop parking lot that offers good views of Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood sign. There is a Staples in Venice that has a roof lot, but there is nothing to see there. The Westside Pavillion has a cool bridge in its rooftop parking lot.

The thing about the Fiat factory is that the roof is an oval test track, not really a parking lot. Therefore the examples I mention could never be as cool as the Fiat Factory.

One building that could have had a nice rooftop parking lot is the Congress hall in Strasbourg by Le Corbusier. It was never built, and the ramp was intended to be pedestrian, but I could imagine driving through the building and up to the roof.

Take a look at this. http://www.roboticparking.com
It is not roof-top parking but it is a good solution that eliminates the problem of surface parking. One of the issues with roof top parking is that it might be difficult to accomodate enough cars on the roof. Also take a look at the Silodam by MVRDV. A robotic system was used to situate the car parking below the pier.

The Pathmark supermarket on 125th Street in Harlem has a rooftop parking. It is the one example I can think of in New York City, but there may be others.

The Bev Cen in Los Angeles has many levels of parking sandwiched between shopping levels plus there is a working oil rig that the parkiing entry ramp takes you by, which is almost as cool a thing as the Fiat building.

Among the four coolest projects I've seen with parking on the roof:
an early supermarket in LA by Victor Gruen (w/criss-crossing access ramps); an early Roche/Dinkeloo project - the Cummins Diesel Headquarters (in Indiana?); that Amsterdam parking garage/housing/retail hybrid by NL Architects thats folded over on itself; and the recently built supermarket in Miami (Publix?) by Carlos Zapata et al. Check the book Carchitecture and an issue of Quaderns from a number of years ago with the theme of Mobility...

...interesting thing about the Fiat factory test track that Banham points out is that the turns were so sharp that it was almost impossible to use for anything except photo opportunities.
