I heard it on NPR...

charles.ellinwood

i heard a very interesting article on "green building" last week.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=90259935

basically, it pointed out how inept the USGBC is and how few LEED certified buildings are actually in existence. i thought that it was brilliant...

so has LEED jumped the shark?

LEED won't matter when gas is $10 per gallon next year. Other standards will be much more important.

i thought that it was interesting that the LEED-certification process was so cumbersome that few actually go through with it up to a meaningful level. what's the purpose of developing a solution to save the world if not enough of us actually use it to make a noticeable difference?

i wish that it would have touched on how the architecture of many 'green' buildings hasn't evolved...the material palette and mechanical systems instead have been altered to make typical building perform better.

I agree singlefin, but unlike the rest of us here, most people out there don't even know what LEED is. When I heard it I kept thinking to myself "That's all your going to talk about on this issue? Come on there is so much more to discuss". But again, I think they were just educating the rest of the population out there.

Re: title

yes, i often start a conversation that way as well...

perhaps this thread can become the official "i heard it on NPR" thread and offer little tidbits of enlightenment for us to consume.

Vado: that's hilarious. reminds me of the Tom Green's Salmon Song from "Road Trip"

i heard unchallenged right wing pandering this morning on NPR
he said the 2 democrats clinton and obama are running under republican platforms when it comes to the war and abortion

did anybody else here that and y wouldn't the reporter challenge his outright lies? is that what a good reporter is supposed to do, stay shut up and accept what they said with our challenging the validity and facts behind the issue?
