Rhino Black-Out

NoSleep

I recently purchased a new hp notebook and installed Rhino. When I split the screen into 4 different views it began to black out the views I would not work in.

Do I need to change the settings to deal with this?

try changing your display on your desktop setting from 32 bit to 16 bit

this works, but there is another way without losing screen quality or having to do it manually every time.

right click your rhino icon>>properties>>compatibility tab>>check disable desktop composition

what this does is disable aero while you're working in rhino, and then it automatically reverts back when you close rhino.

...this works for maya too.

you need to install the latest service release. When you first install rhino the default service release 1 is what you are running. You need to install the latest release which is service release 3. After installing the lastest service release you will no longer have this problem.

If you are running a cracked version then you will most likely not be able to install the service release update.

Its very beneficial to install the latest service release not only to stop the viewport blackouts but because most plugins you will install will need you to have the lastest release in order to work

Service Release 3 is hugely beneficial in that it crashes much less frequently than any of the previous ones, plus they fixed the annoying "Rhino is out of memory and will now close" error and changed it to "will now cancel the current task" allowing you to go back to the document and save changes.
