Ivies are SO creative

evilplatypus

Art major Aliza Shvarts ’08 wants to make a statement.

[url=http://www.yaledailynews.com/articles/view/24513
]Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself “as often as possible” while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process. [/url]

Anyone hungry?

I'd say this was a joke - but its the second time I heard it today.

Oy. This disturbs me.

Won't one of her instructors explain that not only is she doing something almost psychopathic, but making terrible art in the process?

what she should have done was abort each potential child at different stages, from zygote mucus to crowning third trimester infant, then lay them out in a kiddie pool of her own sacrificial blood. i feel like soup.

praise my biological mother for putting me up for adoption instead of using her pregnancy as means to an art project. this individual is apparently unbelievably selfish and completely lacking in morals. is absolutely nothing sacred? she got what she wanted though, we are all talking about it now, which means it must be art and not just a sociopathic means to get attention.

assuming it's not a joke. I'm really curious to see how her body reacts to all of this.

and a part of me hopes that she'll react in a way that she'll regret even thinking about it in the first place.

If true, sounds like she's an attention-yearning reactionary.

I wish there was some kind of organization out there who would monitor weather or not people have the right to call themselves 'artists.'

That's ironic that you advocate compulsory licensing of artists while accusing someone else of being reactionary.

I like the idea of licensing artists.

If you get pulled over by the cops for urinating on a flagpole, just flip out your badge:

"sorry, officer. I'm a licensed artist."

"Oh, pardon me, sir. Please continue."

I've always wanted to do an art project where I brutally murder someone on film and then pin up their remains on a wood cross in an Ivy-League art gallery.

Perhaps the artist could end by filling her uterus with concrete.

It's bold. And it seems like the appropriate finale.

Okay maybe I was excessive with the need for an "art monitor."

But as an artist myself, it really bothers me when people do stupid shit like this and masquerade around as "artist."

Here is another revolting example:

isn't it still a sociopathic means to get attention if we're talking about it?

I hope she starts appearing in Yaz and orthotricyclene ads now as a spokesperson, a la Jared from Subway!

sigh... an abortion pill like RU-486 is not the same as birth control. If we can't even get that straight, then we'll never embrace the morning after pill, which will actually make the US a better place.

Yeah the title of this thread is very misleading... Rubbish like this can be produced in any school.

But especially in Ivies where its concidered daring and shows how liberal and smart they are. I think only in an Ivy where the no doubt the prof and student are under enormous pressure to "differentiate" themselves at all costs.

I remember seeing another outrageous gallery at a very PUBIC and "mainstream" university in the town I grew up in. Every wall in the gallery were covered with these colorful pillows shaped like penises with white cotton representing..... well you know where I'm going. It was done by an otherwise decent artist.

I emphasize the word "public" because this was an open exhibit for all and children from the various elementary schools in the community were often in the audience on school-sponsored field trips.

And this was a huge pot-smoking, booze-drinking, sports-crazy party school that has nowhere near the prestige of an ivy (let alone "public-ivy")

while i think as art what she's doing is fairly horrible, i will say that most of the responses here, some toeing the line of misogyny, are precisely the types of responses she is trying to elicit.
