What I would say is that NYIT has shitty facilities and not enough computers...but excellent design professors. I dont like to tell people that the school I went to for 6 years sucked...I mean for me it did...but that was years ago when they were just getting the grasp on the computers and updating the facilities. Now, it could be great. But I'm sure that Judith DiMaio is still the dean of Westbury and she is a waste case. So who knows.
Design professors that rock...at least for me
-Schwarting - Amazing
-Campani -
-Bertomen - solid as a rock in lower design - a little softer in upper
-Amatuzzo - tough but good
-Dawson - this guy totally kicks ass!!! - you should go just b/c he could be your professor.
haha, sorry but your expressions were funny :), Manhattan, I heard that a lot of the professors there are adjunct and that they teach at other colleges such as cooper, pratt and columbia.
The Professor I rattled off above are all full time professors with their own practices. Some teach 2 or 3 classes. The only one who is adjuct that I listed was Dawson and he was by far the best. The professors I listed also I pretty sure do not teach at other universities. But I'm sure that others that I have not mentioned are teaching at those said schools.
Eh, Dont really know too much about the Manhattan professors.
IMAS...he is a far out professor at the Manhattan campus.
Honestly after I graduated w/ a 5year bach - I wish I could of went to a state school and gotten tuition a hell of alot cheaper. After 6 years I am 90,000 in debt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!FROM NYIT.
I go to the manhattan campus at NYIT (finishing up my third year).
The manhattan campus is great. The professors are amazing. If you're willing to work, you'll learn a lot.
The facilities have improved drastically over the years. Massive amounts of desktops available, the basement of another building is converted to a very large and open studio (although the studios on the 10th from in the main building are for thesis students now). Everyone now gets their own locker. The campus just purchased a laser cutter (finally) and will be available next semester.
From my understanding, there is a campus in china now as well.
Every professor I had were great so far:
Roberto Requejo, James Cornell, Kian Goh, David Diamond, Elizabeth Emerson, Michelle Bertomen (my current professor).
After 6 years of NYiT - I packed up shop and moved to San Francisco. people are "greener" here...its just a part of life. I like that alot. I work for a 25 person firm in Berkeley. Just finished my first LEED Gold Library in Sacramento, Spent alot of time designing a new Subway station in san Jose, currently designing expansion project to an Elevated station on the same system(BART), Then just went on my first interview to get a new job for the office. Very exciting! Its an old PG&E building we are going to turn into a YMCA for Downtown Berkeley. We are shooting for a LEED Platnium building but Gold is probably more realistic at this point.
Would you say that NYIT has a good architecture program?
Posted this in the general discussion, but just posting it here too.. Like the title says, would you say that NYIT has a good architecture program?
