AutoCAD alternatives

jyount10

I am doing a small project (for free) for a family member, which thus far I have done in Sketchup.  I will soon need to put some real drawings together for it, and don't want to spend $1200 on AutoCAD LT, but I don't  mind spending $100 or so for something.  Day-to-day I am an Autodesk Revit & AutoCad user, but haven't done much CAD since ACAD 2008.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Pencil & vellum. And maybe an eraser.

in my limited experience with Draftsight, it appears to be nearly identical to the basic functions of AutoCAD [and free.]

Why not do it in sketchup?

Sketchup + Layout can do what you want to do as long as it's not super-complex from a lineweight graphics standpoint.

I think you should try some of free cad solutions. I recommend nanocad or Draftsight.

othewise, if it is jus a small project, just do it in skecth-up or hand draft

DraftSight is a free autocad clone that I love. Works flawlessly on pc, works well on Mac but printing is much more challenging.

I'm trying out nanoCAD, I'll see how it works. I am wondering how they make their money giving away free software, though.
