As a newcomer in the field of architecture, i would like to seek some opportunity to explore them in this summer. So far i know UCLA and GSD have such summer programs, Jump Start and Career Discovery. Unlike other summer programs, Jump Start at UCLA provides 13 credits which might be the prerequisites of some M ArchI programs. But the GSD one might be more prestigious and has better resources and more competitive attendence.(For example, the requirement of Toefl is 26 in each section.)
My quesition now is does anyone here ever attended these kinds of summer programs? And any expierences or advice for me? Plus, could you recommend some other simlilar summer programs? Thank you.
The career discovery program is not "competitive." As long as you meet all the prerex, you will be accepted. I completed career discovery (for landscape architecture though) and if you're looking for exposure to recent grads, current professors/professionals, and work for a portfolio, it's a good thing.
For architecture, Columbia has a program, but I cannot comment any further. I'm almost certain a thread exist about it on archinect somwhere. Search for it.
These programs are always good for getting a taste of the architecture school experience, meeting peers and young critics, and working on some interesting projects. The admissions is usually first-come first-served, so long as you meet minimum standards - so there's no direct "prestige" in being accepted.
Having Career Disco (or its Columbia equivalent) on your resume is a double-edged sword. You'll get good portfolio material and generally be better prepared for M.Arch programs, but on the other hand some admissions people at some schools view these programs as on the same level of ubiquitous applicant cliche as discussing your childhood fascination with legos in your statement of purpose.
If you're unsure of whether or not architecture is for you, I strongly recommend attending one of these summer programs. My experience was with Career Discovery, but I imagine there are a lot of similarities between the programs. 'Disco' (as it's affectionately known) is very intense and is definitely a great introduction to studio life.
Any suggestion about summer school? (UCLA or Harvard, etc?)

Go to the Harvard career discovery so you can stay in the Law School dorms and see how ugly some of the Bauhaus architecture is.
RISD has/had a great one, I loved it. Damn fun place, too!
I think I learned as much in 6 weeks there as my first full year.
