Good, do we know this forsure about Ryerson and Carleton too? I hate schools who drag their feet, if im not accepted tell me so i can accept another one of my offers.

well i received an offer of admission to Ryerson around on April 19th, and that was online in both ouac and the ryerson infoweb page.
i also have received a letter from them too, and it had to travel pretty far.

carleton takes forever...it really does.
and they don't usually send portfolios back until like ...end of summer?

Someone on here said theyre emailing them out today... so pretty much im sitting here at work feeling nauseous and waiting for my blackberry to light up... I'm trying to be patient but my other waterloo acceptance i got at 3:15... hmm

they said the second week of may! for carleton! omg, i cannot wait that long

is this for sure?

does anyone know what happens with the application if you accept another offer

ex: ryerson said i have to respond by may 8th, but if i don't hear from carleton by then and i accept there offer, can i still accept carletons offer later or will my application to carleton get cancelled for accepting ryersons offer?>

as far as i know universities cant request an answer earlier than may 28th. up until that date you can also change your decision. meaning if you accept one and then get into waterloo you can change your mind without OUAC charging you anything for that decision, after the 28th they might be able to penalise you for it.

Side note: anyone gotten an email yet?

be careful though, in accepting two offers at the same time. Waterloo said that they'd be allowed to withdraw the offer if they find out you've accepted their offer, as well as another one in a different university.

I've finally received an email from Waterloo and its positive!! i guess traveling 7hrs to cambridge was worth it! :)

Well from what i know, you would turn down the one you accepted, ie decline after youve accepted, and THEN accept waterloo's, never keep two at a time

yea ditto, i think they post up the decisions for admitted students first.
btw, did u do mail-in or in person interview?

Apr 30, 08 7:17 pm  ·
 ·
Preston890

I did an in person interview, the second one on Monday morning, it went really well tho and so didthe precis, but w/e

Apr 30, 08 7:19 pm  ·
 ·
xgracyx

i dont think the precis matters that much in the admission process. i talked with a current student, and she said most of her classmates failed the precis.

Apr 30, 08 7:20 pm  ·

from what they said on the day of the interview, its a hurdle system you have good marks.. you get an interview. then they look at the interviews, if its good enough then they look at your precis as the deciding factor... maybe they lied? lol

i just hope they email by the alphabet. cuz then i would have a change. im "x"

i'm thinking i might call carleton and ask if they know when abouts they are releasing there decisions, because i need to accept ryerson/apply for res. and this is kinda making things stressful.

Guys, I understand your anxiety. I've been checking Carleton Central EVERY DAY for the past couple of weeks. Believe me though, they will be out likely next week because last year their offer packages were dated around May 2nd (so that plus the time it takes to mail). I would not be surprised if status on the website changed today or tomorrow.

Ahhhh I really dont know what i'll do if i dont get in there, thats my first choice. Did they tell you if they were emailing.. if it'll show up on ouac, or just mailing?... i cant find my user id to log into carleton central

May 1, 08 3:43 pm  ·
 ·
rarch16

haha well...i dunno but last year it showed on the carleton central right away. and then they mailed it.
im pretty sure they didn't send me an email at all actually.. or ouac? but not too sure about ouac.

so hope it shows there, or you'll be waiting for the mail.

OMG i'd pass out waiting for the mail... Carleton is like 6 hours away and itd be going by slow mail... i can NOT wait 2 weeks lol

what!!! waterloo only has the BEST program in canada?
where r u gonna go then?

lol. I may very well end up doing an engineering degree first before pursuing a masters in architecture. Personal preference I guess. I can't quite see myself being launched into architecture from day one, I'm not positive yet, still doing a whole lot of thinking before I make a final decision, but an engineering degree would give me more options in the long run. And for me, I still have a love for math and science...in the long run I still want to become an architect I think (but who knows that may change) but I don't want to take out all of my options right away.

May 1, 08 8:00 pm  ·

xgracyx

oh. so you got accept into waterloo's M.arch.
i guess that's different.
i think everyone else here is talking about B Sc in arch?

May 1, 08 8:04 pm  ·
 ·
vintagepeoples

lol no, I got into Waterloo's undergraduate. I'm saying that I am considering choosing to do my undergrad in engineering and than afterwards doing a Masters in architecture, instead of going straight into architecture.

I wouldn't accept multiple offers simply because you are waiting on one for a response... Instead, if you really do have a time pressure to make a decision, (for example that you need to make a decision in order to apply for Residence, etc.) I would call or email the school that you have not heard from yet, preferably contact a real person like the dean or somebody who is on the selection committee, explain that you have been made an offer by "x school" and need to give them a response by "y date", and that you are very much interested in their school, and that you would like to know whether you got in, so that you can evaluate both school on equal footing, give their school a fair opportunity, when you are making a decision. They may just be able to tell you straight up if you were accepted or not...

Accepting and then changing your mind afterwards isn't very considerate to the school, or to other candidates who may have been wait listed there, and any school would be eager to give you an early response if they want to remain competitive.

I did this when I applied to M.Arch. programs, and IMHO it was the best, most responsible and most ethical way to go about it... There's really no reason not to, the school should be glad that you have enough interest and consideration to contact them... Just be polite about it...

rarch16

yeah i contacted them earlier today and they said they were releasing there decisions monday
so that is good with the whole deadline thing

and vintagepeoples...honestly..your kinda crazy to be declining waterloo architecture.
its definitely the best program in canada and is sooooooo hard to get into, you should be proud you did and accept it. and apparently the architecture degree can be used towards other areas if you didn't want to go that route later..
just my opinion though.

but i heard from various sources that all acceptance & waitlist emails have been sent out yesterday.
i would rather believe u, rarch 16, haha, cuz i havnt heard anything from them yet

to rarch16, I am quite aware of how fortunate i am to have recieved an offer to Waterloo. However, IMO the reality of it is (after talking to people within the industry and also from a few of the posts here), with an architecture degree and this degree only, most other jobs are fairly design oriented. I mean, I'm in grade 12 here, and as much as I THINK that I want to become an architect, I don't want to cut out my options so early in my life. I still have yet to decide, I think I may contact them today and try to talk to someone who can give me an opinion of some sorts.

Anyone on this forum who has an (unbiased) opinion who is within the industry or who has gone through either route, I would love to hear what you have to say...

Vintagepeoples does make a valid point. The U of T Architectural Studies Major is only better than other programs in that it allows you to keep your options open and take another major/minors. Lots of people in my two arch classes this year were actually engineering students taking it as an elective. If I were to continue into the program, I would still need a 2nd major in something like International Relations (and since I'm in the Arts and Science faculty, any other major that it offers). However, congrats to you for even having the choice to reject Waterloo! I'm sure many of us are just envious for now. If I had that choice, I certainly wouldn't, lol, but I'm quite positive about architecture for myself.

Don't worry, they randomly called me yesterday to see if I knew how to use Carleton Central and said that offers will be made throughout May and June if needed. So don't fret. This makes being rejected by Waterloo feel so much better. :)
