Debating between Maya and Modo3.01

difficultfix

Have any of you ever used Modo 3.01 I have been looking at tutorials for that and Maya...And as of right now Modo seems to be calling me more. I am A Rhino user...I do everything in Rhino, and I am now intersted in looking for more. I want to do more. I am not giving up on Rhino ( Rhino is my Right hand man). I just want to see what else is out there.

I have some experience with Maya, and have tried out modo. Modo has a smooth interface that is much easier to use, and a great set of subdivision modelling tools. Maya is heaps more complicated, and capable of a lot more. Unless you know you need some of Maya's more advanced features (scripting, for example), then modo could be quite a satisfactory stand-in. It will be easier to throw something architectural together in modo than in Maya.

Yeah I have been peeking at videotutorials on both ends. May does seem more complicate to use, But Modo seems like a powerful tool. I know Maya has ben around for som time now an Modo is still consider new. I really like Modo, but I keep thinking I shuld go with Maya (only because of its good reputation)...

thanx agfa8x....I am still going to try to play wth both before deciding...

How is modo's translation from nurbs to poly? I feel this is one of Rhino's great fall backs.

Maya has a steep learning curve. Steep like you wouldn't believe.

Once you're going it's pretty amazing though.

Modo now has a plugin that translates Rhino files (both ways)

why on earth anybody would go to maya from rhino is beyond me it would be like taking a step backwards architecturally for sure unless you want to rig people and do char. animation

doesn't modo have a rhino file plugin? haven't used it but i do everything in Rhinoceros too and don't find the need to go anywhere else but a pixel pusher spreadsheet or word processor

maya is like revit. something taken over by autodesk and puts the automatic taint on it.

Antithenes, I use rhino for everything....I just would like to learn more.. I am also interested in more indepth animation. Bongo does not offer to much for animation....But overall Rhino is my weapon of choice

I have decided to learn maya...and not to pursue modo...

I have been going thru the 756 page training manual, and I am on page 156, its totally different then Rhino for sure... It seem capable of producing so much, which I like.... I still use Rhino...( WILL NEVER STOP USING IT). Maya is so complex with so many comands and terms to know.. It has not been to difficult for me since I have been working with 3d Programs for about 5 years...But its still a beast of information to soak in.

Antisthenes said that its like taking a step backward, very true it seems but only at the beginning,at the end it seems as though you might be able to go much farther. I am not hating on Rhino,,, Proud Rhino user (since early 05). Its just with the little bit that I have seen from maya, it seems as though It will be able to take me much further....
