Have any of you ever used it, I was in a Rhino Class today and our instructor was using it. I thought it was the coolest thing. He was able to do fly by walkthru with this 3d Mouse.
oh, i juts watched their "movie"...you know it ocudl be cool, but I want to try it first...I mean..I am tryin to figure out how i woudl use when i am doing rhino..
i've been using the space navigator for a little more than a year now and its changed my life. i use rhino mostly, but i bought it to navigate catia and maya which both involve complicated button configurations for orbit, pan and zoom. it took a little while to get use having one hand off of the keyboard, but the buttons allow you to program some of your most used commands.
i honestly use it less with rhino, just because a hand on the keyboard is pretty integral to rhino and not to mention orbiting in rhino is pretty easy. although the precision of the sapce mouse makes it quite useful. you can get into spaces you really can't with right click.
i'd highly recommend one, especially for $59...the price has really come down in the past 18 months.
Yeah - I agree with MArch06 - it's amazing for getting around intuitively, and very convincing to "live-demo" a model on the screen - for crits or clients.
I got one for Christmas and it is indeed pretty great. More so with Max than Rhino. It turns Google Earth into a flight simulator. I've got to start doing presentations in google earth now.
ps. the technology was developed by NASA for space-flight operations, but it was either never patented, or it was purposely not-patented for free distribution, and logitech (the owner of 3dconnexion) has developed the tech for desktop application.
I've had one of those on trial in the office some months ago, but I just couldn't get the hang of it. It seemed useful, but for me it just amounted to "playing and having no clue what to do". I seemed to get lost in a maze of panning and tilting (the movements are pretty similar, I think). It could really be useful, but not for me.
I just bought a new 3D Space Navigator. I was so excited when I got it in the mail. I installed it and then started Revit and was not so excited anymore when I learned that Revit does not support this technology yet?
Has anyone else experienced this or talked with Autodesk about when they are going to fix this problem? I am going to put a request into them for some tech. support on this issue but I wanted to see who else has tried to use this kind of device with Revit?
I have never tried it for Revit, I use on Rhino...(took some time to get use to it), But I had tried it on CAD and it was a no go. So I kinf of assumed it wouldnt work on Revit.
Try it with CAD again! It works great with cad. You might need to go into 3D mode. If that does not work then it is not installed right or something because I can use it with CAD.
Problem is that I don't use CAD much since we are using REVIT now.
Anyone try it with Revit and get it to work?

yeah it should come with a free sample of dramamine
Yeah, if you're not driving you can get a little motion sick.
The mouse I need is the 3 button no scroll wheel one for Digital Projects but noone seems to make them anymore.

I consider mine one of the greatest purchases I've ever made. $59.00... it's a no brainer. Works in all the major 3D apps + google earth.
PSSH... ya'll need to hack the wiimote...
