I am not able to get any lighter shades (green, blue...) when printing straight from AutoCAD - the pallete is rather limited, and event the lighter options come out way too strong!
Does anyone have a suggestion - what to do to make them lighter, where to upload more colors...
If I understand your problem right the colors in the full color palette have too much saturation. The solution is to modify the plot style table so that the problematic color is printed as another color - a True Color - which you choose with the Plot Style Table Editor.

Thanks
use screens to lighten colors.
ie 50% screen etc.
Use AutoCAD 2004 or 2005. They both have a considerably large Pantone color palette.

thanks a lot - I will try all these suggestions (and maybe install that 2005 version that was waiting on my shelf...).
thanks norm - screens work a wonder!
