Can anyone suggest how one - who does not know any scripting language, but would be prepared to learn - might go about the exploration of swarms and flocking ala Craig Reynolds Boids algorithm for use in architectural form making? Are there any plugins or scripts that anyone can think of that replicate the emergent behaviour of ant colonies, flocks of birds etc...I would think that there might be something for Maya. Maybe even for Rhino?
been waiting on the Terraswarm stuff (Aranda/Lasch) stuff for some time now - and there's still nothing available - http://www.arandalasch.com/tooling/
thanks for the pics and fibre flocking page...not really what I had in mind...
how lame and so painfully 2002. don't waste your time with an arbitrary and dated process. take the time to learn something practical to help pay of your student loans!
speaking of which, while i appreciate your heartfelt advice, I would suggest you save your own energy. I wasnt asking about the relvency of this approach, so if you can't appreciate it, take it somewhere else.
I always forget when posting here about all the whining Im inevitably going to to be assaulted with.
Even though I understand what you are asking (not really), I do have to agree with Treekiller.
you kids these days with your nintendo and internets and all think that all this techno stuff will save the world. You should be learning skills thats will pay the bills....
do whatever interests you, but having explored some of these scripts last year, i would agree that they are a dead end. not to say that the concepts are not interesting(still), but the scripts are a bit trivial.
swarm/flocking technique in generation of form
