I think the font choice is bad, it comes off as too technical and cold and man...you just don't use 11px font. I mean I have good eyesight *knock on wood* but I had hell of a time reading your about section. Go with at least 14px. Also, I wouldn't refer to myself as a 3rd person, Derek this, Derek that. Other than that it looks good.

I believe another issue with reading the about section is the text bleeding into the background. You have a thin small font with a grey background behind it, they are too similar and make it harder to read. I suggest increasing font size and maybe even making it bold. 

I also agree that it looks a bit cold but that very well may have been intentional? Other than that good job. I like blue. 

By the way, did you build it yourself ? I've been trying to teach myself html & css. Got a basic little site up myself.

Some nice images and organization.  Main criticism: on your About page, change your third-person narrative to first-person.  This is obviously your website; to refer to yourself as he and him sounds odd, and imperious.  Make it straightforward and friendly instead.

Great page, nice projects, I do agree with criticisms above.  Also, on the resume page, the right side is cut off and unreadable.
