Thanks Barry for all the food for thought, as I have been mulling over for quite some time the idea of returning to school yet again for my MLA. It's the monetary thing that keeps holding me back.
Nam - Please forgive me as my mind has many thoughts running through it at the moment, but I think exploring the link between science, nature and art/design have with one another despite its immediate disconnect they have. In other words, at first look, science seems to have nothing to do with art/design yet once you scratch the surface you will see they are pretty much intertwined. Just an idea.
It is grad school, it is always going to cost a lot, but that is sometimes the cost of getting to do something you love.
Anyways, I just finished and am working on my job portfolio, though I am presently employed, THere have been a couple of articles in the ASLA magazine about portfolio design. People I have talked to just say to keep it simple, background wise and such.
TK - don't think I haven't thought of that option ;o) C-bus has always treated me nice. My first two degrees though cost me an arm and half a leg and I'm still not quite ready to chop off the second half of the leg and the other arm. It's still mulling in the back of my head though. I really like what I do, but I've always had a goal of getting a masters in something and Landscape Architecture just seems to be the natural progression. I have no doubt I'll get there, but for now, the timing is just off. Also, at present time I have a mortgage that is kinda blocking the way. Anyone wanna buy a cute little arts and crafts bungalow?
Tuna...
The MLA seems like the logical progression for me as well. I can definetly trace the enduring lines of thought over my two degrees.
The financial one is an issue for me as well. I am still climbing out of the whole created by my previous graduate degree.
Rfox,
That is sort of how i see it to. In spite of the difficulties, i am excited about going back to school, if it allows me to work in a field i feel excited about.
It is all about having multiple options for employment. I could always fall back to my current profession.
