I did get into AADRL and MIT SMarchS (and GSD March II since i didnt hear to excited things about the MDes program + Columbia MSAAD: but already broke it down to the other two university options). I'm on a scholarship + additional MIT grant, so money wise they are equal options.
As I am based in Europe, I only got to visit the AA several times and have always been quite intrigued by the schools atmosphere and student culture.
Did you get a chance to talk to MIT SMarchS alumni or visit the school in person (I'm not sure how research and theory focused it is and less design and studio work?)
Also, may I ask how you came to the conclusion DRL quality has been sinking? I had similar uncertainties about DRL or EmTech as well.
how was the entrance process at Angewandte? I was looking the program there.. did you go to Vienna for the interview? would like to know about the interview etc
do you have a portfolio you don't mind showing me? would love to see what kind of work you do.. I've thought about applying to the Angewandte also, a lot due to financial reasons. :)
Hey I dont know what you decide but I also got into drl and heard its not good as before. I wanted to ask you about sci arc which I also got accepted. I read that you are holding a bArch from US so how is the sci arcs reputation comparing the AAdrl

European M.Arch school / AA / Angewandte
Hi there,
I have graduated from US B.Arch 3 years ago and have been working.
This year I applied to couple schools, but at the moment not very sure
which way I should take my master studies.
I applied to M.Arch 2 mostly, but thinking of applyting to more specialized programs
in the future. I am interested in the computer/parametic design as well
as materials/fabrication.
I am also interested in schools who can offer good TA opportunities,
since I am interested in teaching later.
This time I am looking more towards to ones in Europe
SMarch MIT and MDes Technology at GSD looks good, but
expensive (and of course, hard to get in :)
Also, I would like to experience how living/working
in Europe is like.
This year I got an admission to AADRL, but not sure how
comprehensive the program will be to my interest.
I also got an admission to MSc. Urban Strategies program at Angewandte,
but since program is relatively new and class size seems pretty small,
so not sure. I am more interested in their regular M.Arch program,
which I didn't get in, and thinking of re-applying.
Anyone have more advices on AA, Angewandte and also suggestions
on other European M.Arch program (and possibly US schools as well),
I will appreciate it greatly!
Thanks :)
Its pretty expensive to study in AA i think.. I don't think you'd get any tutoring opportunities in the Angewandte. Whose studio did you apply to?
I hear the Msc. program is more like a diploma. It wouldn't help much if you plan on getting licensed in North America someday. :/
Yes, the tuition at AA is high, so I am doubtful if I can go.
I am applying to bursary thou, to see if I can handle.
But I hear DRL is not at good as before these days (their diploma program
is much stronger), so will have to see. I feel like I should have applied
to EmTech, which I feel like more in coherence with my interest. (took me a while
to get clear!)
Anyone know more about EmTech program?
I am really attracted to Angewandte but yeah, there won't be a tutoring
opportunity so that is one downside. I applied to Studio Lynn.
Heard the studio is well established, and I like the student works.
For Msc program, the curriculum is interesting but little concerned
that history is quire short and class is pretty small.
And other thing Angewandte, although I like their school style/curriculum as
whole, I am not sure if they have enough concentration on coding/fabrication I am
interested in. (heard Zaha's studio is more concentraed on coding, thou.)
As far as license in US is concerned, I have 5yr B.arch from US already.
So I am already qualified, so it doens't matter if my master degree fulfills ncarb requirement.
Any other European degrees that has strong coding/fabrication curriculum do you know about?
I'm at an equal position,
sharing the same points of interest.

@ brgld
oops... for some reason the post was posted twice, i have a reply on the other one.
as for drl quality, just heard from many people. And also similar opinions
on MSAAD. But can't be sure, because I have also heard from people who
liked the programs (although this side of opinion came from people who graduated a while
ago...few years back?), and they still have a good name.
@accesskb
I did it on skype, but strongly recommend to go in person.
I just don't like skype interview, I get really nervous...
And it's also chance to look at the school, as well.
As for content, it felt more or less like job interview - you
talk about your acadmic / professional experience, projects,
and also why you would like to attend the school.
do you have a portfolio you don't mind showing me? would love to see what kind of work you do.. I've thought about applying to the Angewandte also, a lot due to financial reasons. :)
