I've been trying to do some research on this in preparation for applying to M.Arch or other programs, but I've been having some trouble figuring out exactly what the relationship is between MIT's architecture department, the Media Lab, and the CBA. As far as I can tell, the Media Lab is its own degree-granting department, with ties to the Architecture school, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how the Center for Bits and Atoms fits in. Is it a research group within the media lab, or is it a separate department? Do you apply for admission to it, or do you become involved in it after being admitted to one of the affiliated schools at MIT?
If there are any current or former students at MIT who know more about this I would be thankful. The CBA website is curiously unhelpful about this.
